油條是一種長條形油炸面食,常用做早餐。俗稱油炸鬼,而北方則稱果子。
油炸鬼之名源自宋朝奸臣秦檜殘害忠良,百姓恨不得食其肉,但又敢怒不敢言,遂將一對用麵粉糰搓成的麵條,喻意秦檜及其妻王氏,兩人一起下油鍋炸了,象徵式地滿足了百姓的精神上勝利。
而在馬來西亞的檔口裡,除了油條以外,還有一種小食,那就是咸煎餅,裡面有豆沙、五香粉等餡料。
Oil-stick is a kind of longish, deep fried dough usually serves in breakfast. The name- fried stick, is originated from the Song Dynasty of China, where two villains by the name Qin Kui and his wife, much hated by the commoners, were made into dough shaping as human, then put into hot pot of oil for deep frying and eventually eat them in order to ease their anger. Beside oil sticks, there is another similar snack easily found in many local stalls, flavored with red bean paste and five spice powder, namely Xian Jian Pin.
